Where these starting numbers come from

The hours are not a guess and they are not about you — they are the US average, worked out from Nielsen's The Gauge for May 2026, which reports each service's share of all TV watch-time (48.6% of which was streaming), scaled by the 95.8 hours a month the average US adult spends streaming.

Two things that average hides. It counts people who don't subscribe, so if you actually pay for a service you almost certainly watch more than it says. And Nielsen reports Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ as one number, so they share one row here rather than being split by guesswork.

Prices are the ad-supported tiers. Type over any of it — the answer is only worth anything once the hours are yours.
